Alongside unprecedented development, recent exponential technological advances have also led to greater political and social fragmentation, the flourishing of extremism and economic inequality, massive algorithmic surveillance and, inevitably, the progressive redefinition of power relations, reconfiguring the concept of sovereignty, now hostage to the omnipresent technological giants.
This will be the theme for a new edition of the INDEX biennial in Braga, from 7 to 17 May 2026, proposing a broad reflection on the multiple relationships between Power, Art and Technology, through a diverse programme which includes live shows, conferences, an exhibition and educational activities, which will take place at different locations throughout the city.
In 2026, its third edition will bring together leading figures in contemporary thought and artistic practice, including Hito Steyerl, Forensic Architecture & Bill Kouligas, McKenzie Wark, and José Gil, with a program of performances, exhibitions, and conferences. The full program is available here.
INDEX is an initiative of Braga Media Arts that seeks to explore the relationship between art and technology, fostering dialogue and critical reflection on emerging issues in these fields. It is part of Braga’s action plan as a UNESCO Creative City of Media Arts, with the support of the Municipality of Braga, and is promoted by the company Faz Cultura EM.
