Media Art is Here 2023

From August 16 to September 17, 2023 the UNESCO City of Media Arts Karlsruhe presents in this years edition of “Media Art is Here” and the SCHLOSSLICHTSPIELE Light Festival a wide variety of impressive artworks by local and international media artists and collectives in the urban and digital space of the city centre. The projection mappings that illuminate the facade of the castle exceed the walls of the building and once again put the city of Karlsruhe in the spotlight.

Since 2019, the UNESCO City of Media Arts brings digital, interactive and virtual art to public spaces with the aim of providing media art for citizens and guests of the city to experience. Streets and squares, building façades, parks, public institutions and shop windows will once again become a digital stage for light and media arts for four weeks.

The exhibition will feature installations, videos, projections and performances, as well as interdisciplinary projects that facilitate a creative exchange at the interface of art, technology and science. In exciting works, the different artists and collectives create interactive possibilities for all visitors. The whole city centre is turned into a playground for different kinds of media art installations inviting people to take an active role in the festival.
