The Sapporo International Short Film Festival (a.k.a. SAPPORO SHORT FEST 2023) has begun accepting submissions from all genres and backgrounds for the 18th edition of the international competition taking place this year.
Sapporo Short Fest continues to attract around 3000 entries per year across all genres, cementing its reputation as one of Japan’s largest and most respected international showcases of short form cinema. Since its inception in 2006, the festival has received more than 53,000 entries from 145 countries. Selected films are professionally showcased, subtitled in Japanese, and screened in state-of-the-art cinema surroundings.
Grand Prix awards are selected by an international jury of high profile and influential creative talent and industry professionals, awarding approximately 20 categorical prizes for items such as screenplay, acting, cinematography, and editing.
All genres are to be accepted including music videos, provided the submitted film has a duration of less than 30 minutes including credits and production was completed after the 1st of January, 2022. As a special display of support, the submission fee for all Ukrainian productions will be free of charge this year.
More details and submission fees can be found on the official FilmFreeway submission platform. The final deadline for international films is the 16th of April 2023 (Sun).
