City of Media Arts, Oulu, Finland and Oulu Museum and Science Centre invite audiovisual artists, program and game developers and students to propose content for the opening program of Experience Space VISIO, a new immersive venue launching in October 2026 with Northern Locality – Open Call 2025.

Experience Space VISIO, opening within the new Tiima Science and Museum Centre, brings together science, art, and cultural history through cutting-edge presentation technology. Powered by the Ars Electronica Deep Space concept, VISIO will be the first venue of its kind in Finland and Northern Europe—responding to the global growth of immersive environments.

Aims of the Open Call

The goal is to select 1–3 inspirational audiovisual pieces for the opening program of VISIO. Throughout Tiima’s opening hours, several short programs will be shown in VISIO, each comprised of multiple segments. We now seek powerful opening pieces—works that set the tone, spark curiosity, and invite visitors into the experience.

Theme: Northern Locality

The core theme is “northern locality”—interpreted through science, art, cultural history, or any combination. Proposals might explore local stories, places, landscapes, communities, traditions, identity, or contemporary phenomena. Abstract and personal perspectives are welcome. Archive material may be used if the proposer holds the rights. We encourage imaginative and original ideas that capture what makes the North unique.

You may submit one or several ideas (please provide itemized budgets for each).

The total budget for all commissioned works is €20,000 (VAT 0%). The museum reserves the right to select none or only some of the submitted proposals.

Technical Requirements

Each piece should be a seamless, loopable video of up to a few minutes. Works may feature several segments/variations and may include sound or live narration. Content must be delivered in 2D format.

Proposals are accepted via the online form at the Oulu Museum and Science Centre’s website between 30 October and 30 November 2025, in either Finnish or English (at the bottom of the page).
