In summer 2025, the internationally renowned SCHLOSSLICHTSPIELE Light Festival will again take place in the UNESCO Creative City of Media Arts Karlsruhe. Since its launch in 2015, more than two million visitors have marveled at the spectacular projection mappings on the 170-metre-long façade of the Karlsruhe Palace. This annual, barrier-free and free of charge event gathers not only citizens but also visitors from all over the world for four weeks in Karlsruhe, and is one of the biggest media-artistic canvas worldwide.

For the next edition we have two calls open right now:

  • BBBank Award Projection Mapping

This award will be offered for the 5th time at the SCHLOSSLICHTSPIELE Light Festival 2025. The three finalists will receive 15,000 euros to produce their submitted idea for the SCHLOSSLICHTSPIELE 2025 program. The winner of the public vote will receive a further 5,000 euros.

In 2025, the theme of the SCHLOSSLICHTSPIELE follows the 200th anniversary of KIT, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. Founded in 1825 as the first technical university in Germany, KIT is now one of Germany’s eleven technical universities of excellence.

Entries are open until November 5, 2024 at 1 p.m. CET. Further information and the exact conditions of participation can be found here.

  • dm-Award “connecting worlds“

This award is presented for the second time and honors an innovative artistic project that uniquely combines the digital space of the SCHLOSSLICHTSPIELE Projection Mappings with the analogue space of the space in front of the palace. The international open call is open to all artists of any background or previous experience. The prize is endowed with 10,000 euros. In addition to the prize, the production costs of the winning project will also be financially subsidized of up to 20,000 Euros net, with which the winner realizes their concept. Curatorial support and technical assistance by KME and ZKM are included in the prize.

The application period ends on November 22, 2024 at 1 p.m. CET. Further information and the exact conditions of participation can be found here.
