Index 2022: Braga hosts art and technology biennial in may

INDEX is an initiative by Braga Media Arts, in the scope of Braga’s action plan as a UNESCO Creative City for Media Arts. The Art and Technology Biennial will take place from 12th to 22nd of May in many locations around the city and will feature more than 30 artists in 13 days of sharing, reflection, dialogue, and creation.

The 2022 edition of INDEX will thematically explore the notion of Surface. Either as visual platforms or haptic entities, boundaries or interfaces, zones of emergence or extraction, Surfaces represent vital elements of both human and natural ecosystems. They also constitute powerful metaphors for artistic practices concerning technology, raising important issues that urgently need to be addressed.

INDEX will present artworks, performances, and conferences by a group of artists and speakers. The programme will present the performance conference “Inside” by Frédérique Aït Touati & Bruno Latour, works by Bethany Rigby, Dele Adeyemo, Ibiye Camp & Dámaso Randulfe, Ginevra Petrozzi, France Jobin & Markus Heckmann, People Like Us or the show “Subassemblies” by Ryoichi Kurokawa.  The conference program will feature Peter Weibel, director of ZKM and a key figure in the history of media art, as well as Federico Campagna, Michael Marder, and Miguel Carvalhais. Four works resulting from an open call that counted more than 100 participants will also be virtually presented. More artists will be announced soon.
